Good to know: Yacht Labuan Bajo is operated by Komodo Luxury, a real award-winning Indonesian liveaboard operator (TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice 2022–2025, founded 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited). We charter the yacht privately for your group through Komodo National Park. Komodo National Park (UNESCO 1991) requires park entry fees/permits — general information, verify current rates. Dive-site conditions and seasons are indicative and vary; Komodo currents are strong and many north sites are advanced. Marine life — mantas, hammerheads — is seasonal and wild, and can never be guaranteed. Prices are indicative ranges, by quote, and vary by vessel, cabins, season, itinerary length and group size. Enquiries and booking via WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 and sales@komodoluxury.com.
A komodo yacht dive charter is a private, crewed yacht booked exclusively for your group to explore Komodo National Park, with full onboard dive facilities, guides and flexible itineraries. On Yacht Labuan Bajo by Komodo Luxury, that means a dedicated phinisi liveaboard, experienced dive crew and your own pace across Komodo’s world‑class sites.
Komodo Yacht Dive Charter: What It Really Is
On a dive yacht charter Komodo trip, the yacht is your floating dive resort. You sleep on board, move between islands and dive sites, and set your own daily rhythm together with your captain and dive guide.
Key elements of a Komodo yacht dive charter with Komodo Luxury:
- Private use of the yacht – only your group on board (family, friends, club or team).
- Full crew – captain, deck crew, chef, steward(ess), and certified dive guides.
- Dive-focused operation – compressing, tanks, weights, dive deck and tenders, with nitrox available on selected yachts.
- Custom itinerary – you choose how many dives, which regions (North, Central, South Komodo) and how much time for trekking or beaches.
I’m Made Bagaskara, Yacht Captain & PADI Dive Guide with Yacht Labuan Bajo. On this page I’ll walk you through how a private dive yacht Labuan Bajo charter works, what to expect from Komodo’s currents and seasons, and how to match the yacht, itinerary and dive plan to your group’s experience.

Through Yacht Labuan Bajo, we charter these yachts privately for your group, departing from Labuan Bajo and cruising through Komodo National Park. For other dates and group sizes we may broker equivalent-standard phinisi yachts from long-term partner owners; we only work with vessels we know and have inspected.
The Yachts: Komodo Signature & Komodo Prestige
Both owned yachts are wooden phinisi vessels built in Indonesia, designed specifically for liveaboard and charter use. On board, my job is to coordinate navigation, dive deck operations and safety with the rest of the crew.
Core Yacht Features For Divers
- Dedicated dive deck – tank racks, benches and rinse stations for gear and cameras.
- Tenders (dinghies) – for safe drop-offs and pickups at exposed sites like Castle Rock or Batu Bolong.
- Compressor on board – so we can fill tanks between dives and run flexible schedules.
- Nitrox – available on selected trips and yachts, subject to confirmation when you book.
- Shaded relaxation areas – between dives, most of your surface interval is on deck in the breeze, not crowded on a day boat.
- Cabins with A/C – so you can rest properly between big current dives.
Cabin configurations, exact sizes and maximum guest numbers differ by yacht and by charter setup. In broad terms:
| Feature | Komodo Signature | Komodo Prestige |
|---|---|---|
| Yacht type | Traditional phinisi, luxury charter fit-out | Traditional phinisi, luxury charter fit-out |
| Typical use | Families, mixed diving & leisure groups | Dive-focused groups, friends, clubs |
| Guest capacity (approximate) | Small–medium private groups (exact max on quote) | Small–medium private groups (exact max on quote) |

| Air conditioning | Yes, in cabins and indoor lounge | Yes, in cabins and indoor lounge |
| Dive facilities | Dive deck, compressor, tenders; nitrox on request | Dive deck, compressor, tenders; nitrox on request |
Because we do not overstate capacities, we confirm the actual maximum guest number and cabin allocation during your enquiry, based on your group size and whether you are primarily diving or mixing in more land activities.
Why Choose a Private Dive Yacht From Labuan Bajo?
There are many day boats in Labuan Bajo and some scheduled liveaboards. A private yacht diving Komodo charter gives you different advantages:
1. Full Control of Your Dive Plan
- Plan early starts to reach high-value sites before crowding.
- Repeat favourites like Castle Rock, Batu Bolong or Manta Alley when conditions are optimal.
- Shift timing around currents and tides, not a rigid group schedule.
As captain and dive guide, I read tide tables, observe surface conditions, and choose entry times so you get the best compromise between current, visibility and safety.
2. Private Guide Ratios
On a private charter we can structure guide ratios to your group’s needs. Typical patterns:
- Experienced groups – up to 4 divers per guide in appropriate conditions.
- Mixed-experience groups – smaller sub-groups arranged by certification and comfort level.
- Beginner-heavy groups – we avoid the most advanced sites and may add extra guides (by prior arrangement and availability).
Exact ratios depend on certification, dive history, conditions and the final agreed plan, but you will never be thrown into Komodo’s big-current sites without a guide and briefing suitable for your level.
3. Safety-Focused Flexibility
With your own yacht and tenders we can:
- Adjust dive start points and pickup locations for drift dives.
- Abort or change a site quickly if currents are stronger than expected.
- Schedule rest days or half-days if fatigue builds up.
On some trips I’ve changed the plan on short notice based on actual current lines we see on arrival. Having your own yacht gives me that freedom to act in your interest, not to stick to a pre-sold itinerary.
4. Comfort and Privacy
Back on board you have your own cabin, private bathrooms on most configurations, and your own living spaces. You are not sharing a boat with unrelated groups, and the chef can adapt menus to your preferences within what is available locally.
If you want to mix diving with hiking (Padar sunrise, Komodo dragons) or beach time, we simply adjust the schedule day by day in agreement with you.
Komodo Dive Sites From a Yacht Charter
Komodo National Park sits inside the Coral Triangle and was established in 1980, gaining UNESCO World Heritage status in 1991. It’s known for strong currents, high nutrient flow and varied marine life. From a dive yacht, we can cover all main regions given enough days and suitable conditions.
Below I’ll describe some headline sites in broad terms. Depths and currents are always indicative and you will get a fresh briefing before each dive. Never treat these notes as a replacement for an on-site assessment.
Central Komodo – Batu Bolong, Makassar Reef & Neighbours
- Batu Bolong – A steep reef pinnacled by a small rock between Komodo and Tatawa. Rich coral, dense reef fish, often turtles and occasional pelagics. Currents here can be very strong and unpredictable, including vertical and swirling flows. We only dive Batu Bolong in suitable windows, usually at slack or mild current, and only with divers who are at least Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and already comfortable in current. Huge fish life, but it is an advanced site in many conditions.
- Makassar Reef (Manta Point / Karang Makassar) – A long, mostly shallow reef with rubble and sandy patches and coral bommies. This is a known manta cleaning and feeding corridor, especially in certain seasons and tides. It is usually dived as a drift. Currents can be fast but mostly horizontal; we plan entries to keep you in control. Manta sightings are seasonal and never guaranteed.
- Tatawa Besar / Tatawa Kecil – Colourful drift dives with soft corals, schooling fish and often turtles. Currents vary from gentle to strong; sometimes we change the route or timing based on what we see on arrival.
North Komodo – Castle Rock, Crystal Rock & The Cauldrons
North Komodo typically has clearer, slightly warmer water than the south, and is where many advanced current sites are found.
- Castle Rock – An underwater pinnacle exposed to open-ocean flow. This site can deliver schooling jacks, fusiliers, trevallies, sharks and more in the current. It is firmly advanced: entries can be negative-descend, currents can be strong and changeable, and you must be able to manage buoyancy, stay with your guide and avoid uncontrolled ascents. We will only take suitably experienced, certified divers here, and never in conditions that exceed your ability.
- Crystal Rock – Another pinnacle with rich life, crevices and coral growth. Currents and surge can be strong. We sometimes adjust the route to the lee side in heavier flow or choose not to dive if it exceeds our safety comfort.
- Shotgun (“The Cauldron”) – A channel between islands that can create a powerful “washing machine” effect on strong tide days. It can be thrilling for experienced current divers, but I will cancel or downgrade the plan if the flow looks too heavy on arrival.
South Komodo – Manta Alley & Cooler Waters
- Manta Alley – South of Komodo Island, exposed to cooler water. This area often has higher plankton, lower visibility and lower temperatures, which mantas like. You may see mantas circling cleaning stations or cruising in the channels. Again, manta presence is seasonal and not guaranteed. Currents can be moderate–strong and surface conditions can be rough in some months.
- Other southern sites – There are several pinnacles and reefs offering critters, soft corals and sometimes sharks, but we choose them based on daily conditions and your experience.
For more site-by-site information you can explore our dedicated dive site guides on sister sites such as labuanbajodivecruise.com and liveaboardlabuanbajo.com. On your charter, the briefing on board always overrides any general description.
Currents, Conditions and Required Experience
Komodo is famous for currents. Those currents are the reason for the rich marine life, but they also mean this area is not an entry-level playground. My first responsibility is to match the day’s plan to what you can safely handle.
Certification & Experience Guidance
These are broad guidelines for diving from a private yacht in Komodo:
- Minimum recommended level – Open Water with recent dives for calmer, protected sites only.
- Better baseline – Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) with some logged drift / current experience.
- For sites like Castle Rock, Batu Bolong (in flow), Shotgun – Strong buoyancy, comfort in current, good gas management and fast response to guide instructions. Typically Advanced or higher, with prior current experience.
If your group includes beginners, we can simply leave the most advanced sites off the plan and focus on central and more sheltered areas. Another option is to split dives by level on some days, but that requires enough guides and tenders; we’ll confirm this during planning.
Visibility & Water Temperatures
Conditions change by month, region and even day. In broad terms only:
- North Komodo – Generally warmer, clearer water much of the year.
- Central Komodo – Moderate visibility, typical “Komodo mix” of currents and temperatures.
- South Komodo – Cooler upwellings, lower visibility but higher nutrients and often more plankton-feeding life.
We never promise fixed visibility or exact temperatures; we monitor real-time and adapt. On some trips I’ve seen conditions change quickly within hours between sites only a short cruise apart.
Marine Life: What You May See (And What We Never Promise)
Komodo is in the Coral Triangle and can deliver very rich biodiversity. Across a multi-day charter, divers commonly encounter:
- Hard and soft coral gardens.
- Reef fish schools (fusiliers, snappers, sweetlips, surgeonfish and more).
- Turtles on many central and northern reefs.
- Reef sharks, trevallies, jacks and sometimes tuna on current-exposed points.
Manta rays are frequently seen in certain seasons and tides at sites like Makassar Reef and Manta Alley, but these are wild animals. Even at peak seasons, sightings are never guaranteed. Some trips see mantas many times; some see them briefly or not at all, even with correct season timing.
Hammerhead sharks and other pelagics are sometimes reported from certain deeper or more exposed sites in the wider region, but Komodo is not a guaranteed hammerhead destination in the way some other Indonesian locations are. Treat hammerhead sightings here as a bonus, not an expectation.
Typical Komodo Yacht Dive Charter Itineraries
Your exact route is customised based on trip length, your experience and the season. Below are example patterns, not fixed schedules.
3 Days / 2 Nights – Central Focus (Taster)
Suitable for:
- Limited time.
- Mixed groups with moderate experience.
Possible highlights:
- Central Komodo reefs (Tatawa, Sebayur area, similar).
- Makassar Reef (if tides and seasons are suitable).
- Option for a Komodo dragon trek and a viewpoint hike instead of some dives.
Dive count: often around 6 dives over 3 days, but we can do fewer with more leisure, or adjust based on your energy and weather.
4–5 Days – Central & Selected North or South
With 4–5 days we can usually include a mix of:
- Central reefs and drifts.
- Either some northern advanced sites or a run down to the south, depending on level and conditions.
- One or two land excursions (dragons, Padar sunrise or a sandbar stop).
Dive count: many groups choose 3 dives per full dive day plus an occasional night dive. That usually lands somewhere in the 10–14 dive range for 4–5 days, but this is adjusted to your fitness, certification and travel timings.
6–8+ Days – Full Komodo Circuit
On a week-long private dive yacht Labuan Bajo charter, we can:
- Explore both north and south (in suitable seasons).
- Plan multiple attempts at key sites like Castle Rock, Batu Bolong and Manta Alley when conditions align.
- Build rest intervals into the schedule so you don’t burn out.
Dive count: many experienced groups choose roughly 3 dives per day with a few days at 4 dives (including night dives) if energy remains good. Again, this is flexible and always balanced with safety.

Dive Operations On Board: How The Day Flows
On a dive-focused yacht charter, a “typical” full dive day might follow this rhythm (times adjusted for tides and chosen sites):
- Early morning – Light breakfast, first dive at a site that benefits from calmer early currents or fewer boats.
- Surface interval – Full breakfast, logbook notes, move to the next site by yacht.
- Late morning / midday – Second dive, often at a different style of site (for example from a deep pinnacle to a shallower drift).
- Lunch & longer surface interval – Time to rest, nap or enjoy the deck.
- Afternoon dive – Usually a more relaxed site if the day has already included strong-current dives.
- Optional night dive – On certain days when the group still feels fresh and local rules/tides allow.
Every dive is briefed thoroughly: entry/exit, max planned time and depth, current expectations, references, separation and lost-buddy procedures, and signals. As captain and guide, I coordinate with the tender drivers and crew so pickup is quick and controlled, even in drift situations.
Safety Standards & Risk Management
Diving Komodo from a yacht involves inherent risks, especially with currents and variable conditions. Our approach is conservative and transparent.
Before Your Trip
- We ask about certification levels, number of logged dives and recent experience.
- You should bring valid dive certification cards and, ideally, proof of insurance that covers diving in Indonesia.
- If there are any medical concerns, get clearance from a dive-aware doctor before traveling.
On Board
- Boat & dive safety briefings at the start of the charter.
- Oxygen and first aid available on board, and staff trained in emergency response.
- Surface support – tender boats track bubbles and follow drift lines for pickups.
- No solo diving – guided team structure only.
- No forced advanced dives – you can always skip a site or choose a more conservative plan.
Decompression dives are not part of standard leisure itineraries. We plan within no-deco limits, using conservative profiles and respecting surface interval needs.
Park Fees, Permits & Regulations
Komodo National Park was established in 1980 and is governed by Indonesian authorities. All visitors must pay park entry fees and, for divers, additional usage and guide fees may apply.
- Park entry – typically per-person and per-day, with different categories (Indonesian vs foreign visitors, weekends/holidays, etc.).
- Dive fees – additional charges for diving activities, guides and potentially for certain special zones.
- Other local levies – harbour, ranger or tourism contributions may apply.
Fee structures have changed several times in recent years and may change again. Always treat any figures you find online as general information only and verify current rates at the time of booking. Our team can help you check the latest structure and clarify what is included in your charter quote.
Pricing: What a Komodo Yacht Dive Charter Typically Costs
Komodo yacht dive charter pricing depends on the yacht, season, group size, trip length and level of service (for example, nitrox, additional guides, photographer support). We do not publish fixed one-size-fits-all prices because each group’s configuration is different.
As a very broad guideline, last verified June 2026, a privately chartered crewed phinisi in Komodo typically falls into these approximate ranges:
- Per yacht, per night – often in the range of several million to tens of millions of Indonesian rupiah, varying widely by yacht category and season.
- Per person, per night (if you divide by a full group) – often comparable to or higher than quality dive resorts or scheduled liveaboards, with the added benefit of exclusivity and custom routing.
These ranges are indicative only and are not a quote. Your actual price will be confirmed via a written proposal based on your dates, boat choice and inclusions. To get an accurate figure, please share:
- Number of nights and preferred travel window.
- Estimated number of divers vs non-divers.
- Desired focus (heavy diving, mixed diving/trekking, family trip, etc.).
- Expected certification levels in the group.

Planning Your Komodo Yacht Dive Charter
To match yacht, crew and itinerary correctly to your group, we normally follow this process:
- Initial enquiry – you share dates, group size, experience levels and what you want (heavy diving, dragons, beaches, photography, etc.).
- Boat selection – we propose Komodo Signature, Komodo Prestige or a partner yacht based on those needs and availability.
- Provisional itinerary & quote – outline of likely route, indicative dive plan and total charter price, including what’s covered and what’s not (park fees, flights, alcohol and similar are usually excluded).
- Refinement – adjust number of nights, focus on north vs south, add extra guides if needed.
- Booking & payment – once you confirm, we secure the yacht and crew for your dates.
Our wider Komodo yacht portfolio is also showcased on sister sites such as charterlabuanbajo.com, cruiselabuanbajo.com and privatekomodocruise.com. All bookings for Yacht Labuan Bajo are handled centrally by the Komodo Luxury sales team.

FAQs: Komodo Yacht Dive Charter
How many dives can we do per day on a Komodo yacht charter?
On a private Komodo dive yacht we commonly plan around 3 dives per full dive day, with the option of a 4th (for example, a night dive) on selected days if the group still feels fresh and conditions allow. The actual number depends on your experience, currents, weather and how much time you also want to spend on land hikes or beaches.
What is the typical dive guide ratio on a private dive yacht Labuan Bajo charter?
Guide ratios depend on experience levels and conditions, but a common pattern for experienced groups is up to 4 divers per guide. For mixed or less experienced groups we create smaller sub-groups and may add extra guides by prior arrangement. We do not take large unguided groups into Komodo’s advanced current sites.
Are sites like Castle Rock and Batu Bolong suitable for beginners?
Castle Rock, Batu Bolong in stronger currents and similar northern sites are considered advanced. They can involve strong multi-directional currents, negative entries and the need for excellent buoyancy and situational awareness. For beginners or divers without solid current experience, we either choose milder sites or dive these locations only in very gentle conditions, or not at all.
Can you guarantee manta or hammerhead sightings on a Komodo yacht diving trip?
No. Mantas and any pelagics, including occasional hammerheads, are wild and seasonal. We plan itineraries to maximise your chances based on season and tides, but sightings are never guaranteed. You should choose a Komodo charter for the overall quality of diving and experience, not for a promise of specific animals.
What certifications do we need to join a Komodo yacht dive charter?
For central, more protected sites, Open Water with recent experience can be enough. For many of the best-known Komodo sites, especially in the north and at deeper or current-swept pinnacles, Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and prior current experience are strongly recommended. Mixed-experience groups are welcome; we simply adapt the site selection and guide structure to keep dives safe and enjoyable.
